Bucovina is well known by
tourists and historians
alike for its 7 separate
monasteries of the 15th
century. The Monasteries
were built mostly by one of
Romania's greatest heroes;
Stephan the Great. The
fortified walls were used to
help ward off invading
Ottoman forces. The unique
part of the Monasteries is
the exterior frescos,
painted in vibrant colors,
telling stories of different
biblical scenes.
Apart from the Monasteries,
Southern Bucovina has a
charm felt only here. The
way of life today is much
the same as 100 years ago,
and the people have a magic
about them that can't be
described; only experienced.
