Oradea serves as a passing
point connecting Central and
Northern Europe with
South-Eastern Europe; it is
a gateway to entering the
country. Oradea is one of
the most picturesque towns
of the western Romania,
lying only 13 km east of the
Hungarian border. It is the
heart of a strong Hungarian
community and an important
cultural center in this part
of the country with a state
theatre, puppet theatre,
philharmonic orchestra,
library, and Museum.
At the turn of the century
most of the town’s old
houses were rebuilt and
customized to the new trendy
architectural style called
“Sezession” from Vienna.
This gives Oradea a style
distinct from that of
Western Europe and is the
main tourist appeal here.
While in Oradea enjoy a walk
down the streets feasting
your eyes on the "Sezession"
houses that look very much
like huge icing cakes with
their pale pink, green, blue
and white, richly decorated
facades.
