Snagov
Lake is situated about 30 km
from Bucharest. This
beautiful lake is a getaway
for many city dwellers as
there are very many resorts
and Ski Mountains in this
area. The lake its self is
surrounded by a forest that
is host to many different
species of animals. But the
main reason people come to
Snagov is the monastery that
is situated on an island in
the middle of the lake that
is only accessible by boat.
The Snagov monastery is said
to be the place where they
sent the headless corpse of
Vlad Tepes (Dracula) after
he was assassinated. This is
argued by many people as
most historical facts about
this intriguing man are. An
excavation performed in 1931
reportedly found an empty
grave, while some accounts
tell of the exhumation of a
richly dressed decapitated
body. Never the less the
Frescoes and painting
surrounding the tomb is a
great site to see and is a
necessary stop for Dracula
fans and followers.
