Sibiu is one of the most important fortified villages in Transylvania, it has never been conquered. Sibiu is one of the most visited towns by tourists in Romania. It is reminiscent of medieval towns in Germany such as Nuremburg. It is scheduled to be announced as the "European Capital of Culture" in 2007, together with Luxemburg.
